The Scotland Women under-20 squad will enhance the pathway to the national team by training the players to train and compete at an International level, and provide strength in depth to ensure future sucess for Scotland Women.
The programme will replicate that of Scotland Women by focusing on core skills, enhancing players' rugby education and fostering a winning attitude. On the ground, players will be tested in core skills including handling and contact, and will have position-specific training. Their rugby education will be broadened through an emphasis on strength and conditioning and athletic ability while close attention will also be paid to attracting talented players from other sporting fields. Each player will be mentored and involved in setting individual goals, so mentally preparing them for the task in hand. Players will be expected to show the same level of commitment as the senior team to training, attending squad weekends and attaining their personal goals. The squad is expected to compete at international level, in a programme similar to that of the national team, with long-term expectations of taking part in the 2014 and 2018 Rugby World Cups.
