Rugby Ecosse 0 Las Bandidas 43
The semi final draw paired Ecosse with formidable opposition to further progress. Las Bandidas who were founded by a New Zealand expat living in Los Angeles and draws players from the States and his home land but based in USA. They have a formidable track record around the world and Ecosse survivors from last years final will remember Loe Stender and Kelly Griffin who were part of the team which beat them on that rain soaked occasion. Also included in the line up today was New Zealand fly half Anna Richards whose mother also represented the Kiwis making this a unique mother-daughter double. In short, then Ecosse were up against a team masquerading under a fun name but who in reality take their rugby dead seriously with a nucleus of regular players supplemented by guests of appropriate quality from local sides. Sad to say, the difference in class was not slow to emerge. Courageous defence by Ecosse kept the barricades in tact for three minutes before a missed knock-on by the Americans presented them with an advantage, which they quickly converted into a goal. The old double whammy was completed when the referee did spot a dropped pass but his time it was Ecosse who eroded and this too generated a further seven points snappy try through some inadequate tackling extended the advantage by the interval. With little hope against such powerful opponents of retrieving the position in the second half Ecosse rather lost their shape and the Bandidas cruised serenely to the final with tries coming at regular intervals and precious little evidence that Ecosse could break their strangle hold.
