NDL PROGRESS CONTINUES PDF Print
Friday, 14 November 2008
The third National Development League fixture was held at Stirling County RFC on Sunday the 9th November. Despite challenging weather conditions 55 female rugby players showed dedication to attend the session.

Eight clubs were represented at the event and the day began with a coaching session knee deep in mud, focussing on handling for the whole group.

After a short break four teams were formed by combining clubs together and the league games got underway.

In the first set of matches Edinburgh University 2nd XV suffered a defeat to Oban Lorne 0 - 19 while Stirling County and Stirling University teamed up to conquer a combined Strathaven and Grangemouth side 17 5.

As the weather continued to deteriorate there was a short respite before the second set of matches got underway. Oban Lorne were victorious over the Strathaven/Grangemouth team 34 5 and Edinburgh University 2nd XV were beaten 24 0 by Stirling County/University.

Hospitality was provided in the clubhouse following the matches. The next fixture takes place on the 7th December at a venue still to be confirmed and ALL teams (regardless of league) are invited to send their NEW and INEXPERIENCED players to the NDL day to take part in the games.

The National Development League (NDL) is a programme that started in the 2006/07 season to meet the needs of new and developing women's clubs in Scotland; its now into in its third season. It combines competition and skills development for all players aged 17+, by a skill specific coaching session delivered by SWRU and guest coaches followed by league games.
