Welcome to Scottish Women's Rugby PDF Print

Scottish Women’s Rugby has been part of Scottish Rugby, the national governing body for rugby in Scotland, since the integration of the Scottish Women’s Rugby Union (SWRU) and the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) in June 2009. Previous to that the SWRU had been responsible for running the women's game since 1993.

As with every other aspect of Scottish Rugby the women’s game has a representative structure. At periods during the year a meeting of all clubs with an interest in women’s and girls rugby is held in the format of a Forum Meeting. This gives an opportunity for Clubs and any interested parties to come together and talk on a national level about our game. Although it is used by Scottish Rugby as a way of disseminating ideas and proposed changes it in primarily a chance for Clubs to talk together and express ideas, concerns and exchange views on current issues in the Women and Girls’ game.

From this Forum is elected a Management Group that act as advisors to Scottish Rugby and advocates for the wider opinion. All the leagues are represented as well as posts held by Youth, Student, Events and Volunteer posts. As well as these people, the Chair of the Forum sits on the Group and it is Chaired by the Scottish Rugby Council Women and Girls’ Representative, the post held currently by Kath Vass.

The Management Group’s remit is

• Represent Women and Girls Rugby in the Scottish Rugby community
• Provide information and support to clubs and volunteers
• Support the growth of the game of rugby in Scotland

WHY DO WE NEED TO AFFILIATE TO SCOTTISH RUGBY?

Scottish Rugby regulates and runs all competition and provides support to its member clubs and players through its dedicated staffing team in general within the organisation of Scottish Rugby. In order to participate in any Women and Girls’ programme, or competition, or access any support including the SR Travel Scheme and the club Accident and Insurance Scheme, clubs must affiliate.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Affiliation is free

WHY DO WE NEED TO INSURE OUR CLUB?

The Club Accident insurance scheme ensures that players are covered against serious injury or death and the club, coaches and match officials are covered for public liability. An option exists for Clubs to take out additional cover in relation to loss of earnings arising from rugby injuries.

HOW CAN I JOIN THE SCOTTISH WOMEN'S RUGBY FORUM MANAGEMENT GROUP?

All of the Group members are volunteers. Election onto the Board takes place every year at the last Forum meeting of the Season. However, don’t wait that long, there are always jobs to be done and offers of help are very welcome at all times.
