EIGHT TEAMS BATTLE IT OUT IN NDL EVENT PDF Print
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Following the first National Development League fixture at Peffermill in Edinburgh, 93 female rugby players battled the weather and Morgan Academy RFC on Sunday 26 October for the second NDL day of the season. Eight clubs were represented at the event which began with a coaching session focused on scrummaging for the forwards and handling for the backs. Physios were on hand to offer advice and support for any niggling injuries. After a short break six teams were formed and league games were underway. Edinburgh University 2nds suffered the first defeat to Morgan Academy 2nds 0 - 17 while Oban conquered RDVC 15 - 0.

In the second set of matches RDVC were victorious over Morgan Academy 2nds in a closely fought 5 - 0 encounter while Strathaven were beaten 40 - 5 by Stirling County/Uni.

In the final games of the afternoon a tense game saw Stirling County/Uni edge past Oban 14 - 12 and Edinburgh University 2nd seeing off Strathaven 10 - 5.

Now into its third season, the National Development League (NDL) programme started in 2006/07 season to meet the needs of new and developing women's clubs in Scotland.

Combining competition and skills development for all players aged 17 and over, skill specific coaching sessions are delivered by SWRU and Guest coaches before the league games take place.

The next fixture takes place on the 9 November at Stirling County and all teams (regardless of league) are invited to send their new and inexperienced players to the NDL day to take part in the games.
